Julia Ann (Lecy) Knudson, 91, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Rock Valle Lutheran Church, rural Granite Falls, Minnesota with interment following at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born December 30, 1931 to Arthur and Julia Lecy at home on the family farm in rural Gwinner, North Dakota. She was baptized February 15, 1932 at Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Church in Gwinner. When she was one year old, she moved with her family to Sioux Agency Township. Julia Ann was confirmed on November 25, 1945 at Rock Valle Lutheran Church in Echo, Minnesota. In 1949 she graduated from high school in Sacred Heart, Minnesota.
On June 19, 1949 Julia Ann married Gunval Lund Knudson at Rock Valle Lutheran Church. Together they raised seven children. In June they celebrated 74 years of marriage.
She was an active member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church. She served for many years as a Sunday School teacher as well as a dedicated circle and quilting group member. Recently she became an associate member of Rock Valle Lutheran Church.
Julia Ann endured the hardship of growing up without a father. She devoted her life to caring for her husband, mother, children and grandchildren. Julia Ann and Gunny raised their seven children on the farm, showing them what love, kindness, compassion, generosity and hard work mean. She was aways there to give love, support and advice, teaching her children many life lessons. She was so proud of her family. She was a gentle, quiet soul who cherished spending time with her family.
Julia Ann’s garden was her sanctuary. She had a green thumb and could make anything thrive, bloom and be beautiful. She also had a love of animals, especially her cats and dogs. She had many artistic talents which were evident in her quilting, flower arranging, and hosting of many gatherings with her beautiful table settings. She was a wonderful cook and baker as she always had “a little lunch” for all who entered her home. No matter how many showed up at her table, everyone was fed. Her grandchildren always enjoyed the special treats she had for them and her way of making every birthday and holiday special.
Deeply missed by her loving husband Gunny and their children: Barbara (Dave) Davis and daughters Kim (Dennis) and Heidi (Brad); Sandra (Mark) Beito and children Thomas, Julia (Casey) and Laura (Kevin); Patty (David) Springer and children Troy (Cathy) and Wendy (Tim); Karen (Mitch) Brovold and children Nathan (Amy) and Stephanie (Nick); Keith (Nancy) Knudson and children Alyssa (Justin), Evan (Morgan) and Kalli (Dylan); Kevin (Carrie) Knudson and children Holly (Jason), Katie (Nick) and Courtney (Tyler); Lisa (Jay) Seiler and children Jayson and Jennessa. Julia Ann is also survived by 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, her brother-in-law Stanley (Carolyn) Knudson as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
“Mom, you will be forever in our hearts and we will miss you dearly. We love you!”
Blessed be her memory.
