Jozef Marcinkowski was born May 10, 1943, in Chotow, Poland, the son of Stanislaw and Stanislawa Marcinkowski. He was baptized on June 25, 1943 in Oleszno, Poland. Jozef graduated from high school and served in the Polish Military. He went on to work in the coal mines and following some education was promoted to work as an elevator operator in the mines. He was also active as a Union Leader. Jozef was united in marriage to Janina Krzyzak on April 13, 1968 in Walbrzych, Poland. In 1983, Jozef and his wife along with their youngest son Irek moved to Germany and in 1984 they were sponsored by the Bethel Lutheran Church of Willmar and moved to the United States. He worked at Bethel Lutheran Church as a custodian for a short time and then went to work for Jennie-O in Willmar. He also worked part time for Cash Wise Foods in Willmar.Jozef passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at the Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He was 67 years of age. He is survived by his son Irek (Susan) Marcinkowski of Montevideo; three daughters: Barbara Painliczek, Maria Moszczynski and Dorata Jakubaszek all of Poland; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two sisters: Janina Kaczor and Genowefa Kaczor and two brothers: Wladyslaw and Jozef Marcinkowski all of Poland. He was preceded in death by his wife Janina; daughter Irena Slemp and a brother, Waclaw Marcinkowski.
