Joyce A. Walstrom was born February 5, 1926 in St. Paul, Minnesota the daughter of Arvid and Ella (Johnson) Jacobson. She grew up and attended country school in the Wegdahl area and graduated from Montevideo High School with the Class of 1944. After working in San Diego as a riveter during WWII, Joyce returned to Montevideo where she found employment at Donahue Jewelry Store in Montevideo. She served as Fiesta Queen in 1947 before her marriage to Stirling Walstrom on November 30th at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. To this union three children were born. They made their home in rural Montevideo where Joyce cared for the home and raised the children.
Joyce enjoyed gardening, reading, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children: Sandra Boen of St. Cloud, Steve (Marsha) Walstrom of Montevideo, and Tim (Amy) Walstrom of Maplewood; grandchildren: Shannon (Kirby) Rengstorf, Wendy (Dan) Westby, Ryan Boen, Ellie Walstrom and Will Walstrom; great grandchildren: Jaden and Kolten Rengstorf, Cody and Rylee Westby; sister June (Joe) Orrie of Waterville; and sister-in-law Barbara Jacobson of Bloomington.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Stirling Walstrom in 1987, parents Arvid and Ella Jacobson, grandchildren Mitchell and Collin Boen, and her brother Paul Jacobson.
