Jon Verlin Maurice was born on October 9, 1966, to Verlin and Barb (Schroeder) Maurice in Olivia. Jon moved with his family to Maynard in 1970. He graduated from Maynard High School in 1985.
Jon worked for many years at Town and Country Foods in Maynard, Impact Plastics in Maynard, and General Mailing in Willmar. Oh, and he washed dishes at Budgers too.
Jon bought his lake place at the Waskawood Resort in Glenwood in 2005 and since then it has been his pride and joy, spending many weekends there reading, relaxing, and fixing the place up.
Jon's other great love was for his family. He spent countless hours with his five nieces and nephews - and great nephew Cooper - cheering them on at all of their events, spoiling them whenever he could, and maybe teasing them a little too. Also, he never missed a Maurice family reunion, Cousin Fest, or tour of the sugar beet plant.
Jon was active in the Maynard Lutheran Church serving on the council, an usher, and worship team. Recently he became very involved in the Chippewa County Relay for Life raising money for his team “The Maurice Mafia”. He was an avid sports fan supporting the Montevideo Thunderhawks and MACCRAY Wolverines along with the Twins and Vikings.
Jon passed away on March 22, 2017. He is survived by his mother Barbara Maurice of Maynard, sister Cathie (Troy) Simenson of Blomkest, brother Jim (Kevin Crowley) Maurice of St. Cloud, brother Jay (Stacy Anderson) Maurice of Maynard; nieces and nephews: Cody (Brooke) Simenson of Kandiyohi, Courtney Simenson of Blomkest, Casey Simenson of Blomkest, Bryce Maurice of Duluth, and Kelsey Maurice of Montevideo; great nephew Cooper Simenson of Kandiyohi.
He was preceded in death by his father Verlin Maurice and his grandparents: Rueben and Hazel Schroeder, and Tim and Helen Maurice.
