John Francis “Jack” Baker, 86, of Granite Falls, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 4, 2015.
Jack was born on March 6, 1929 in Granite Falls to Ralph and Maud (Mooney) Baker. After graduation from Granite Falls High School in 1947, Jack ventured to Montana and worked various forestry jobs. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a Flight Line Mechanic from 1948 to 1952. Upon his honorable discharge from the USAF, he returned to his home town and established his construction business, Jack Baker Construction. Once retired from the excavation business, he enjoyed checking in on the business activities carried on by his sons. He was a “Jack” of all trades.
Jack enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, reading, playing cards with his friends, trying his luck at the horse races, and watching ball games. Jack found great pleasure in driving around town and through the countryside, checking on construction projects, visiting his family, and enjoying nature. He was one of a kind.
Jack is survived by his sons: Jack E. (Karen) Baker, Jeff (Cindy) Baker, Tom (Karen) Baker – all of Granite Falls; daughter, Margee Baker of Boynton Beach, FL; grandchildren: Allison & Luke Baker, Nick (Kelley) Baker, Mandy (Ben) Kuehn, Jamie, Emily & John Baker; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Morgan & Hailey Baker and Maddox Kuehn; brother, David Baker of Culver, IN; sister, Elizabeth Cormier of San Francisco, CA; and many extended family and friends.
