Joe Dick Klaassen was born on September 20, 1922, in Visquard, Germany, the son of Dieke and Hiskea Klaassen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and after moving with his family from Germany to the Clara City area, attended country school until 8th grade. Joe was united in marriage to Eleanor Speiser in the St. Clara Catholic rectory on April 12, 1949. He was employed for 38 years at the Clara City FarmerÂ?s Elevator and also assisted Tom and Peggy Condon in their farming operation. Joe loved everything involved with farming and loved to garden. He also enjoyed hunting and had a keen sense of humor. Joe was called from this life on Sunday morning, September 30, 2012, while a resident of the Clara City Care Center. He was 90 years of age. Surviving family include his wife Eleanor of Clara City, his son Larry (& Shirley) Klaassen of Clara City; two grandsons Mark Klaassen of Clara City and David (& Kelly) Klaassen of Montevideo; two great grandchildren- Ashley Klaassen and Caleb Klaassen. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Claus & John and a sister Trena Onnen.
