Joan Marie Reed was born on July 27, 1927 in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Ernest and Jenny Turner. She grew up on a farm near Windom, MN and graduated from high school in Windom, MN in 1945. In 1949, Joan graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a degree in Business. She was united in marriage to Robert S. Reed in 1951 and started their family in Alexandria, MN. Joan worked with the Minnesota State Employment Agency as a job placement specialist for 30 years. She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo, MN where she participated in Dorcas Circle, the church choir and other church related activities. Joan was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed giving of her time for community service, decorating her home, hosting dinner parties and entertaining friends. Above all, Joan loved and supported her family and will be remembered for her infectious laugh and beautiful smile. She was called peacefully from this life on Saturday march 21, 2010, while a resident at Sunrise Senior Care Living Center of Golden Valley, MN. She was 82 years of age. She is survived by her children- David Reed (& fiancé Ramona Schuna & her daughter- Ruby) of Montgomery, MN and Janet (& Al) Helgemo of Golden Valley, MN; grandsons- Reed & Brent Helgemo of Golden Valley, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 2001; a daughter Jeni and one brother Peter.
