JoAn Knodel was born in Montevideo, Minnesota on Tuesday, January 2, 1934 to Alton Alexander and Edna Adella Hinn. She was baptized in Watson and the family later moved to Fessenden, North Dakota. She received her formal education in Fessenden, graduating with the High School Class of 1952. After high school, she continued her education and graduated from El Camino College in Torrance, California. On June 13, 1953, JoAn and Arnold Knodel married. Their union was blessed with two children. The couple later divorced.JoAn was a talented and award winning artist, specializing in watercolor and pastels. She loved to read, garden, embroider and was an avid movie buff. She had extensive movie and music collections and insisted that her children take music lessons. She introduced her grandson to an era of music that he may not have otherwise experienced. JoAn took immense pride in being a homemaker and raising her children. She was a great baker and made terrific pies. She loved to eat, especially Mexican food from RicardoÂ?s Restaurant in Las Vegas. She was always up for an adventure and traveled when she could, having a particular fondness for the south. She loved to laugh; even at herself. Cherishing her memory are her children: Tony Knodel of Fort Scott, Kansas and Stefanie (Daniel) Elwood of Torrance, California; her grandson Aaron Elwood of Torrance; sisters: Patricia Hinn and Linda Moen both of Fort Scott, and Sheila Goldade of Minot, North Dakota; her brother David Hinn of St. Cloud; 4 nieces and 3 nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents Alton and Edna Hinn and her sister Dona Mae Hinn.
