Today we celebrate the life of Jerry Burnell Sumner. On 11/16/2012, Jerry's spirit was freed from his ailing body. Born on 10/29/1948 in Eldora IA, Jerry spent most of his life in Western MN (Hanley Falls, Marshall, Dawson, Granite Falls) and the Minneapolis area. He was an inspiration to everyone for his easy going attitude, witty sense of humor and unconditional love for all. He loved traveling with friends and family, especially to Treasure Island, FL. He couldn't get enough of playing sports and games (basketball, softball and cribbage to name a few). Jerry also had a soft spot for kids. He was always willing to help guide, teach or help any child who needed it with an endearing amount of patience and kindness.Jerry is survived by his wife, Kay, Granite Falls MN, son Christopher (Yer) Sumner, Red Wing, MN, daughter, Shantelle (Josh) Odegard, Orono, MN, stepsons Michael (So Kyong) Stalsworth and Patrick (Alysha) Stalsworth and 13 amazing grandchildren. He was also lucky to have fantastic siblings: Harlowe (Brenda), Sumner, Dawson, MN, Coni (Ron) Morris Iberia, MO, Steve Sumner (Deb Baker), Dawson, MN, Shawn (Janet) Sumner, Dawson, MN and several nieces, nephews. Our family invites you to celebrate Jerry's life with us on December 1, 2012 at the Granite Falls Legion/V.F.W., 60 6th Avenue, Granite Falls, MN 56241, beginning at 3pm. As a Vietnam Veteran, Jerry's cancer, Adult Pleomorphic Rhabdomyosarcoma, was directly related to his Army service. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to The Sarcoma Foundation of America
