Jerrell Koenen, age 31, of Montevideo passed away Monday, November 11, 2024 at his home after a long term illness. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM noon, with a Prayer Service at 11:30 AM, at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo. Burial will follow in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Redwood Falls.
Jerrell Lee Koenen was born March 28, 1993 in Willmar, Minnesota to Scott and Marie (Wellnitz) Koenen. He was baptized November 3, 1994 at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton and was later confirmed in his faith on October 26, 2008 at Watson Lutheran Church. Jerrell grew up in Appleton and Watson and graduated from Lac Qui Parle Valley High School in 2011.
Following high school, Jerrell served in the United States Army from 2011 – 2014. He was stationed in Germany before he was honorably discharged. Jerrell moved to Alexandria and began working for Walmart. He later was transferred to the Montevideo location and made his home here.
Jerrell was happiest when he was playing video games or spending time with his family, whether it was on some outing or getting together for Christmas. He was his own person and always had a smile on his face. His loving personality will be greatly missed.
Jerrell is survived by his mother, Marie (David) Dannhoff of Redwood Falls; father, Scott (special friend, Jenny) Koenen of Montevideo; siblings, Jonathan (Nicole) Koenen, Jenna Koenen, Ethan Koenen, and Emmalee Koenen; nephew & niece, Liam & Kara Koenen; grandmothers, Ruth Koenen and Marcia Wellnitz. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Vernon Koenen and Merle Wellnitz.
