Jean Reynolds, age 86, of Montevideo, Minnesota passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at the home of her daughter and husband, Tracy and Rick in St. Cloud. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Jean Miller Reynolds was born January 14, 1938 in Lenoir, North Carolina to A.C. and Vergie (Miller) Mitchell. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lenoir, North Carolina. Jean’s father was a career Navy man so the family moved often and lived in many states, including Kwajalein Island and Hawaii. When he was onboard ship or overseas, Jean, along with her mother and brother, stayed with her grandparents on their farm in North Carolina.
Jean met Tom Reynolds in December of 1954 on the naval base, Barin Field, in Foley, Alabama. Jean worked at the Base Exchange, where one day she grabbed Tom by the arm and said, “Smile sailor, it’s Christmas.” On January 20, 1956, Tom and Jean were married in Lenior, North Carolina at the parsonage of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Jean and Tom started their family, Alicia, Jeff, and Tracy, in Minot, North Dakota. They lived in Sioux City, Iowa and Slayton, Minnesota before settling in Montevideo and having their fourth child, Mitch. Jean worked as a CNA at Luther Haven in Montevideo for 27 years.
Jean enjoyed baking and cooking and loved to share her baked goods with neighbors and friends. She was selfless and gave her all to help other people. Jean was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She taught Sunday School and enjoyed serving others at funeral luncheons. Jean adored all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and cherished each moment she could spend with them and her loved ones felt the same about her.
Jean is survived by her children, Alicia Lee of Montevideo, Jeff (DeAnn) Reynolds of Groveton, TX, Tracy (Rick) Rahe of St. Cloud, Mitch (Peggy) Reynolds of Pipestone; grandchildren, Zachary (Corina Kells) Lee, Cassie (Tyler) Sonstegard, Thomas (Kristin) Reynolds, Kaylie (Jay) Hamby, Clarey (Brendan) McInerny, Conor (Jessica) McKeown, Mason (Whitney) Reynolds, Aaron Reynolds; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Diane Mitchell of Lenoir, NC, Betty Simonson of Fargo, ND; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Tom; parents, A.C. and Vergie; brother, Jerry Mitchell; parents-in-law, Henry and Ellen Haugan; brother-in-law, Fritz Simonson.
