James Fossen Tongen was born May 15, 1943 in Benson, Minnesota. He died in his Montevideo home on December 18, 2016 after battling lung cancer.
Jim was confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Watson. He enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USS Estes between 1961 and 1963. He and Sally were married in June 1976. He has a step-daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Miller.
Jim worked as a tire repairman and owned Tongen's Regrooving and Repair until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of Sunset Masonic Lodge and Sunrise Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Montevideo. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shrine, a Past Associate Bethel Guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel 85 of Shakopee, and Grand Senior Custodian of the Grand Guardian Counsel of Job's Daughters.
He is survived by his wife Sally, one brother Richard and his wife Juanita Tongen of Rush City, daughter Cynthia Miller of Crystal, niece Holly Bunn and her son Christopher of Austin, Texas, nephew Wade and his wife Jill and daughter Danielle of Colleyville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Adeline and Elmer Tongen.
