Jim was born on June 1, 1930 in Montevideo, the son of Arne and Ruth (Nelson) Schei.

Jim was baptized and confirmed into his Christian faith in Trinity Lutheran Church, Montevideo. He grew up on the family farm near Montevideo and attended elementary in District #25 Country School, graduating from Montevideo High School in 1948.

Jim honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He received a ‘Purple Heart’ medal in solemn recognition of his injury; a decoration which honors sacrifice and a man of humility and strength.

On February 20, 1954, Jim was united in marriage to Doris Pieper in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clara City. Jim and Doris started their family in Montevideo, raising up four daughters. He dedicated many years to operating his family farm, dairy farming, and was also a rural mail carrier. For over 20 years, he and Doris enjoyed spending winters together in southern Texas, where they acquired dear friends and made countless memories. They lived in Lake Benton, Minnesota, for 15 years before retiring to Clara City in 2000, where they were active members of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Jim enjoyed wood working projects, reading Louis L’Amour books and watching RFDTV, polka, Minnesota Twins and Gopher Basketball, however, he treasured the time spent with his family more than anything else.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Doris Schei; parents, Arne and Ruth Schei; brother, Paul Schei; and son-in-law, Richard Schlenner.

He will be deeply missed by his four daughters, Rebecca (Roger) Newman of Hector, Sally (Rod) Olson of Willmar, Dianne (Steve) Anderson of Montevideo, and Sara (Tim) Sabe of Clara City; grandchildren, Eric (Jessi) Newman, Lindsey (Mike) Buboltz, Dana (Joel) Asche, Abby (Cory) Rodelius, Jordan (Jennifer) Anderson, Blake (Katie) Anderson, Paige Sabe, Cole (Katie) Sabe, and Carter Sabe; great-grandchildren, Tate, Avery, Beckett, William, Hudson, Taya, Lowen, Noah, Bennett, Liam, Addison, Alivia, Aubree, Brendan, Amelia, Caroline, Arlo, Casper, and Graham; brother, Larry (Sue) Schei; and numerous other relatives and special friends.
