James Eugene Rowberg was born in Minot, ND, on October 29, 1927 and became the adopted son of Conrad and Ella (Hoff) Rowberg in 1931. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls, MN and attended public school in Hanley Falls.
He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict as a sergeant in the United States Army from 1951 – 1953 and on September 18, 1954 he was united in marriage to Donna Bruss in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wood Lake. They made their home in the Hanley Falls area where they operated the family farm.
Upon retirement, James kept busy working for housekeeping in the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital and later as a coat check at Prairie’s Edge Casino.
James enjoyed fishing, baseball, (in his younger years he played for the Hanley Falls City Team), woodworking, playing pinochle, bowling and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Hanley Falls American Legion, of which he held the offices of Commander and Treasurer. He was also a lifetime member of the Granite Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars, a life member of the Red Devils and served on the church board of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. At the time of his death, James was a faithful member of Rock Haven Church.
Surviving James is his wife Donna of Granite Falls; son Scott (& special friend Connie Eischens) of Renville, daughter Shelley (& husband Scott) Shultz of Granite Falls; 4 grandchildren- Jill, Natasha, Andrew & Lexi; 5 great grandchildren- Noah, Isabella, Chase, Brandon & Brody; 3 sisters- Eileen (& Merald) Borg of Clarkfield, Monica (& Darren) McLead and Diana Schubert both of Sonora, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents- Conrad & Ella Rowberg.
