James Anthony Grove was born on May 16, 1943, in Montevideo, the son of B. Odean and Minnie Angelina (Reinholt)Lutheran Church in Clara City and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Wang Lutheran church of rural Maynard. He attended public school in Maynard and on July 28, 1963, James was united in marriage to Eurdine "Eydie" Ruth Tepfer in St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Danube. They made their home for a short time in Granite Falls, then moved to Danube and eventually settled in Maynard, where they farmed for many years. James was fondly known as "Grover" to his family and friends. He was a gifted mechanic and enjoyed tinkering on his numerous tractors, snowmobiles, four-wheelers and other equipment he kept on the farm. He enjoyed taking Eydie dancing and listening to ?Old Time? music. James had a keen sense of humor and the ability to make people feel good even when times were difficult. He was a generous man who always made time to help a friend in need. James? home was a favorite ?hang-out? for his many friends and neighbors. James enjoyed caring for all of the animals and livestock he kept on the farm, especially his dogs and horses. He liked to go deer and bear hunting and spend time outdoors. He was active in the community and was a member of the Maynard Lion's Club and served as its president. He participated in the planning of the annual Maynard 4th of July parade and was a proud member of Wang Lutheran Church. On Thursday, March 29, 2012, James was called peacefully from this life while a resident of the Clara City Care Center. He was 68 years of age. Surviving family include his two daughters Julie (& Steve) Aalfs of Clara City and Amy Grove of Shakopee; his two grandchildren Bailey & Taylor Aalfs; his mother Minnie Grove of Paynesville; two sisters Marlys Pearson of Paynesville and Diane (& Bill) Rentschler of Powell, WY; his brother David (& Shirley) Grove of Granite Falls, sister-in-law Betty Tepfer of Danube; two brothers-in-law Gordon (&Betty) Tepfer of Renville and Russell (& Marilyn) Tepfer of Clara City.He was preceded in death by his father B. Odean Grove; his wife Eurdine "Eydie" Grove (in 2002); his father-in-law & mother-in-law Albert & Esther Tepfer and brothers-in-law Glen Pearson & Orville Tepfer.
