James Ammermann

April 27, 1925 — December 3, 2013

James was born on April 27, 1925 in Rheiderland Township, Chippewa County to Nan G. and Trena (Bohlsen) Ammermann. He graduated from Clara City High school in 1942. He went to Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and graduated with a degree in Diesel Mechanics. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for a period of seven years. On October 5, 1951 Jim was united in marriage to Merlaine Swenson in Kerkhoven Minnesota. He owned and operated Ammermann Truck Lines for many years and his motto was, ?The Line That Service Built?. He went on to serve as general manager, executive director, and lobbyist for the Minnesota Permit Truckers Association. He lobbied in St. Paul, MN, and Washington, D.C. His knowledge and experience in the trucking industry led him to establish the first truck driver training course in the Midwest at Alexandria Vocational Technical Institute in Alexandria, MN where he instructed for 18 years, retiring in 1990. He was also a board member of the National and State Truck Driver Training Schools. He was a devoted member of the Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. He belonged to the American Legion Post 485 of Clara City, and was a supporter of the Friesen Historical Society. Jim was a dedicated father, a great role model, and mentor to his family. He treasured making memories with his family and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. He was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and shared this with everyone he met. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and had a passion for golf throughout his life. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participating in sports. Jim loved to shake dice and play cards with his friends during morning coffee, and attend sporting events with friends. Jim is survived by his children, Patricia (Vern) Seeman of Clara City, Steven (Peggy) Ammermann of Willmar, Kristi (Paul) Schilling of Litchfield, and Kari (Ralph) Thissen of Clara City; 12 grandchildren, Nicholas Seeman, Jason Seeman, Gretchen Amundson, Jonathan Ammermann, Maggie Schwitters, Mitchell Dragt, Brianna Forster, Christopher Dragt, Jordan Schilling, Krista Childers, Zach Thissen, and Abbey Thissen; and 9 great-grandchildren; step-siblings, Arlene (Elmer) Hanson, Doris (Francis) Halvorson, and Lambert (Lois) Kleene and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Merlaine, his parents, brothers George and Harold, his step-mother, Frieda Ammermann, and special friend, Janet Perkins.
