A memorial service will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Wang Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls and continue one hour prior the service at the church on Friday.
Iver Clair Lalim was born May 7, 1939 to Clarence and Eva (Corneliusen) Lalim at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital. Iver passed away July 24, 2024, unexpectedly in his sleep in the early morning hours at the Clara City Care Center.
Iver was baptized May 23, 1939 at the Wang Lutheran Church with his great uncle Johan and Inga Sather as his sponsors. He was confirmed at the Maynard Lutheran Church by O.A. Olson with the Wang and Maynard confirmation class combined.
Iver grew up on the farm in Wang Township, Renville County. He attended school in Milan for second and third grade as his mother was a teacher there. He graduated from Maynard Public School in 1957. In high school, Iver was in track, basketball, was a pitcher for baseball, sang in the choir, and joined the National Guard when he was a senior. After graduating, he attended the School of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota.
Iver married his high school sweetheart, Judy Mattson, on November 20, 1958 and together they lived on the farm in Wang Township for 60 years. He raised soybeans, corn, wheat, sweet corn, peas, cucumbers, artichokes, alfalfa and sugar beets. He also had a herd of Holstein cows and raised hogs and chickens. He and Judy would bale straw and alfalfa for their neighboring farmers.
Iver and Judy raised five children, teaching them to work hard, be honest, not give up and be proud of what each would accomplish. He would say, “don’t tell me you can’t do it.”
Iver was a charter member of the Renville Tilapia Fish Farm, the National Farmers Organization, a Mason and Shriner. He coached girls’ junior high basketball and taught that same age of children in Sunday school. He enjoyed that age group and tried to show and teach them how to live a decent and honest life. Iver was also involved in the Wang Lutheran Church by ushering and church council. He was a referee of high school boys’ basketball and played on the Maynard town softball team as the pitcher. He enjoyed people, debating different subjects, telling stories, and bantering back and forth with someone of like mind.
Iver enjoyed regular and ice fishing, hunting deer, pheasants, duck and geese. He also hunted bear, antelope, and at age 70 shot and killed an elk at 325 yards. He did pro bass fishing with a friend and won some trophies. As a small boy he would walk along the creek with his dog and fishing pole or gun hunting for prey. He could sit all day in a boat, duck blind or deer stand waiting for the opportune moment! He had the patience for the hunt!
Iver was very proud of his children and grandchildren of what each could do and would accomplish. He loved each one very much. Iver would say in later years to his wife, “we are a team and are so blessed.”
Iver is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Anita (James) Platt, Pauline (James) Weingarten, Terry (Timothy) Sletten, Nancy Moody & Jeremy Lalim; grandchildren, Tim (Ashley) Platt, Erik (Katie) Platt, Eva (Paul) Terry, Mali Weingarten, Ryan (Brittany) Grussing, Vanessa (Casey) Cheney, Jordan (Ashlee) Grussing & Jessica Moody; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Lalime Falcone; nephews, Chirstopher Falcone & Steven (Antonia) Falcone; a grand nephew & niece; as well as numerous cousins.
