Irene Marie Ladner, 92, of Granite Falls, passed away at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital, Monday, September 25, 2017, following a brief illness.
Irene was born February 17, 1925 in Ghent, MN to Leo and Katherine Lerschen.
On September 18, 1943 Irene and John Ladner were united in marriage in a ceremony held at the chapel on the grounds of the Presidio in San Francisco where John was stationed during World War II. Following the war they returned to Granite Falls where they would raise their children and become an integral part of Ladner’s True Value Hardware and the Granite Falls community.
In addition to working at the hardware store and raising their children, Irene and John enjoyed traveling the world. They often shared memories of their many adventures. Irene played in several bridge clubs and was well known as a fiercely competitive player. Her competitive nature also included the MN Twins, with her and John betting $1 on every game. She loved to entertain family and friends and her home was always open. Every meal was an opportunity to celebrate family and friends. She was a lifelong member of St Andrew’s Catholic Church and enjoyed serving the parish in many ways.
Irene’s family brought her much joy. Irene is survived by her son Robert (Dolly) Ladner of Granite Falls; daughters Susan (Steven) London of Plymouth; Joan (Brent) Hughes of Plymouth; daughter-in-law Deb Ladner and Diane Ladner of Granite Falls.
