Irene Koenen

Irene Koenen was born March 22, 1937, the daughter of Simon & Helen (Freiborg) Folkerts in rural Raymond. She attended country school and graduated from the Raymond High School in 1955.
Irene was united in marriage to Orville Koenen on September 4, 1959, at Bethany Reformed Church and this union was blessed with two sons and a daughter. She worked at the Clara City Care Center for about 25 years. Irene began playing the organ at the age of 13 and was organist for Bethany Reformed Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and organ, knitting, crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles and coffee with her friends. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren.
Irene passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, in her home. She was 82 years of age.
She is survived by her children: Clark (Mary) Koenen of Eagan, Lynn Koenen of Clara City and Julie (Darrell) Schoep of Clara City; grandchildren: Britta, Jacob & Annika Koenen, Benjamin & Andi Schoep and Emily Koenen; brothers: Gary Folkerts of Clara City, Boyd (Minnie) Folkerts of Bunde and Ernest (Mary) Folkerts of Kerkhoven; several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orville and a sister Jeanette Freese.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15th at 10:30am at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the Bethany Reformed Church and it will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
