Ing Alness

March 11, 1926 — October 4, 2009

Inghart Merdell Alness was born on March 11, 1926, in Tyro Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was the son of Magnus and Inga (Foss) Alness. He grew up on the family farm with his three brothers and two sisters. Ing was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and was a long time member and honorary usher for the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. On December 29, 1951, Ing was united in marriage to Mae Reese at Swede Home Church. They lived in Clarkfield, Minnesota, until 1963, when they moved to their home in Granite Falls, Minnesota.Ing attended school in District #102 and graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1944. He assisted his father on the farm until he began his work with the local creamery, for which he ran an independent trucking business hauling milk from farms to the creamery. He then accepted a position with the Minnesota Valley Improvement Co. In 1963, he took a position with Plews Manufacturing (later Parker-Hannifin Corporation) as a Distribution Manager. He retired in 1991. Ing was a wonderful father and grandfather. He loved his family, played an active role in their lives, and was very proud of them all. Ing also loved his home and living on the Minnesota River. He enjoyed taking long walks, hunting with his family, tinkering in his yard, and maintaining his cars. He loved people and found the good in everyone. For many years, Ing was a volunteer ambulance driver for the city of Granite Falls. In the early hours of Sunday, September 27th, Ing passed away at the age of 83 years.Ing is survived by his wife Mae of Granite Falls, Minnesota; children: Cindy (Robert) Boily of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Mark (Julie) Alness of Duvall, Washington; Mary (Mike) Jauss of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Carol (Bruce) Soine of Maynard, Minnesota; Jon (Linda) Alness of Elgin, Minnesota; and John O'Connor of Fort Worth, Texas; 16 Grandchildren; brothers: Ornie Alness of Clarkfield, Minnesota; Marlow Alness of Bloomington, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters: Jerena Schrupp and Alvina Cole and brother; Merlin Alness.
