Ida Jane Schuller was born on August 24, 1920, at Havelock, Iowa, to Andrew and Maday (Gneupel) Smith. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and as an adult was confirmed at St. Clara Catholic Church in Clara City.
She attended school in Havelock and Pluver, Iowa and then attended District 80 in Chippewa County when her family moved to Crate Township. In her teen years, she moved to the Mallard, Iowa area to help her grandparents and then met Russell.
On February 21, 1939 she was married to Russell Schuller at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mallard, Iowa. In the spring of 1940 they moved to their farm in Leenthrop Township of Chippewa County and lived there until 1995 when they moved to Clara City. In 2014, Ida moved to Prairie Park Place in Clara City and in September of 2015 became a resident of the Clara City Care Center.
Ida was an active member of her church, the Happy Hour Homemakers Club, involved with the Senior Community Center in Clara City, and the Thursday Card Club. She loved visiting with people and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. When weather and health prevented her from being out among people, the telephone was her friend.
Ida died peacefully on Saturday, November 14, surrounded by her family at the Clara City Care Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Slettedahl of Watertown, South Dakota and her son, Bill (Nancy) Schuller of Montevideo. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, twelve great, great grandchildren, and other family members. Her grandchildren include: Russell Slettedahl, Mike Slettedahl, and Bev Okoniewski of Watertown, South Dakota; Chuck Slettedahl of Stockholm, South Dakota; Jeff (Wanda) Slettedahl of Montevideo; Richard (Karla) Slettedahl of Danube; Mary (Chip) Retzlaff of Newport News, Virginia; and Jan (Robb) Sachariason of Montevideo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Russell (2000), her daughters Carol (2011) and Kathy (2012), and two brothers, Frank and John Smith.
