Hilborg Ree

Hilborg Adele Ree was born December 13, 1913 in Leland, Illinois, the daughter of Halvor and Anna Soppeland. She passed away October 1, 2013 in Granite Falls at the Granite Falls Manor.She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at the Eagle Grove Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Hilborg grew up and attended school in Eagle Grove, Iowa where she graduated from the Eagle Grove High School.On March 21, 1936 Hilborg was united in marriage to Newell Ree in Eagle Grove at the church parsonage. To this union seven children were born. They lived and farmed near Hanley Falls.She worked as a nurse's aid at the Granite Falls Manor for 16 years and following her retirement, continued working as a home-health assistant. Hilborg enjoyed reading, embroidering, and playing cards. She was a member of Birthday Club and Homemakers Club and was active in WELCA both at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church and later at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. She is survived by her children: Alayne Ree of Willmar; Rosalie (Larry) Kotval of Maple Lake; Dave (Barb) Ree of Spicer; Becky (Roger) Hamre of Granite Falls; Dan (special friend, Sharon Schmiesing) Ree of Spicer; Debbie (Gary) Thein of Maple Grove; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Hilborg was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Newell in 1987; son, Greg; and a daughter-in-law, Carol.
