Herman Carl Schulz was born in Fulton, South Dakota on March 25, 1929 to Carl and Anna Schulz. He grew up and attended school in the Fulton area and was baptized and confirmed in the Fulton Lutheran Church. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in 1951. On November 28, 1951 he married Rosella Heiman in Alexandria, South Dakota. After twelve years of farming, Herman and Rose moved their family of five children to rural Maynard, Minnesota where they were blessed with their sixth child. After many years of farming in Minnesota, his son, Dennis continued Dad's work. The two of them worked together through the fall of 2012 and Herman had no plans of retiring from the work he loved to do. Herman's energy resulted in early planting and an early harvest every year. Herman's days were filled with hard work and then days of sadness after the death of their youngest daughter, Colleen, to an automobile accident at the age of 16 in 1982. He was a member of the American Legion and the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. Herman enjoyed gardening and was known for his beautiful flower beds and the many vegetables he shared with his neighbors. His hobbies included collecting toy tractors, playing cards and having coffee with his friends.Herman passed suddenly on March 23, 2013 with Rose and his five children at his bedside at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul. He went to his heavenly home and to the open arms of his daughter, Colleen, his parents, two brothers and three sisters who preceded him in death. Herman is survived by his wife, Rose, of 62 years and five children: Cathy Schulz of Greybull, Wyoming, Dennis (Pam) Schulz of Maynard, Sandy (Steve) Frericks of Dubois, Wyoming, Peggy (Jack) Kalata of Scottsdale, Arizona and Debbie (Rene) Suda of Dubois, Wyoming, 9 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Herman's 84th birthday was remembered on Monday, March 25, 2013.
