Helen Minna Johnson was born October 13, 1917, the daughter of Harm & Minnie (Katzberg) Reiners in Lone Tree Township, Chippewa County, MN. She attended school in District 65 Lone Tree Township. She was brought up as a young girl on the farm. She later worked at Farmers State Bank in Raymond, MN for 10 years.

Helen was united in marriage with Duane L. Johnson on November 26, 1949 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church parsonage in Clara City, MN. They resided in Raymond, MN for a short time until moving to Prinsburg, MN and then Clara City, MN. Helen was the bookkeeper for her husband’s lumber business as well as a proud stay-at-home Mother for her two dear sons. She resided in Clara City for many years until moving in with her son David on Green Lake where years later she passed away under home hospice care on April 17, 2017.

In her youth, Helen was a member of the Raymond orchestra, her church choir, and a family band. Helen’s passions were cooking, baking, and serving everyone. She loved working in the yard and in her flower garden. She lived a mission that was written in her father’s obituary. It stated that his life was “a product of that age where hard manual labor was a symbol of the dignity and worth of man.” However, when work was complete for the week, Sunday was always set aside for her devoted faith in God and her unending devotion and love for her family. She truly was an inspiration to her husband and two sons.

Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband Duane of 40 years, sister and brother-in-law Agnes and Adolph Martins, and mother and father Minnie and Harm Reiners. She is survived by her two sons, David Johnson of Spicer, MN and Mark (Debra) Johnson of Spicer, MN and two granddaughters, Dana (Adam) Conroy of Madison, MN and Ranelle Johnson of Minneapolis, MN. Helen also leaves behind a very special pet and friend, her English setter (Badger), who was always by her side even at the very end.

Helen was a lifetime member of Immanuel of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, MN. A celebration of life service will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2017 with visitation time two hours prior to the service.
