Helen Hanson, 87, of Granite Falls, passed away on Thursday, September 24th at the Granite Falls Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 1st at 11:00 at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Helen Joan Hanson was born December 19, 1932, the daughter of Herbert and Evelyn Arneson in Granite Falls. She was baptized and confirmed at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. She attended Granite Falls High School and graduated in 1950.
Helen was united in marriage to Glen Hanson on December 26, 1952 at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. She was a wonderful mother to her three sons. She taught Sunday School, loved being a part of the Altar Guild, member of the Ladies Guild who made many quilts for both the community and for missions. She was a Den Mother for her son's Cub Scout Troops, Co-Sponsor and Sponsor for Yellow Medicine County Relay for Life Breast Cancer Awareness Rally for 4 years. Worked as a clerk during elections.
Helen was an avid sports enthusiast of all Minnesota sports teams and especially when son’s Glen, Jeff and Gary played baseball in the summers while being coached by their father Glen. She also enjoyed going for walks, working in her flower beds, loved her kitties and loved to attend her grandchildren’s activities and later years loved seeing and interacting with her 12 Great Grans.
She is survived by sons, Dr. Glen D. (Lisa) of Greenfield, Iowa; Jeffrey L. of Alexandria, Minnesota; Gary L. (Kathleen) of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Megan (Steve) Henry, Charlotte & Stella Scrivner of West Des Moines, Iowa; Alison (Jon) Kenny Miller of N. Yarmouth, Maine; Gary T. (Olescia) Holton, Landry & Oliva Hanson of Lewisville, Texas; Kristina (Brandon) Dominic & Mirabelle Smith of Winterset, Iowa; Brenda (Travis) Barrett, Parker & Emmett Sertich of Athens, Georgia; sister-in-law Marilyn Hanson of Willmar, Minnesota; brother-in-law and sister-in law, Charles & Lois Waller of Aberdeen, South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her close friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by Glen O. Hanson (husband), Herbert and Evelyn Arneson (parents) and Merle Arneson (brother).
