Helen Ordella (Stokke) Albeck, 104, of Alexandria, died on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria, Minnesota.
Helen Ordella (Stokke) Albeck was born February 2, 1916, to Olai and Helena (Christopherson) Stokke in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was the fifth of eight children. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church.
Helen married Martin Noren Albeck on February 10, 1945 at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. They farmed west of Hanley Falls until her husbands death. Helen also enjoyed working as a cook at various cafés, baking wedding cakes, crafts and gardening. She also took pleasure in celebrating her strong Norwegian heritage. During World War II she worked at the Boeing Company in Washington state assembling B-17 Bombers for the war effort, these women who did this were later known as “Rosie the Riveter”.
Helen was an active member of Study Club, Homemakers Club, Birthday Club and Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church Quilters; she was also a Sunday School teacher; and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Douglas Albeck of Mound, Minnesota, Kurt (Jane) Albeck of Osseo, Minnesota; daughter Ra Nae (David) Antonson of Glenwood, Minnesota; grandchildren Julie (Steve) Erickson, Ryan (fiancé Ann Otto) Albeck, Jason (Monika) Albeck, Erica Albeck, Leyna (Todd) Kaiser and Laird (Robin) Thompson, as well as six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, M. Noren Albeck, her parents, brothers Bernard, Harry, Selmer and Carl; sisters Clara (Christiansen), Eleanora (Nicolai) and Hannah who died in infancy; son-in-law Robert Thompson and daughter-in-law Betty Albeck.
