Hazel Stratmoen

October 8, 1921 — July 20, 2014

Hazel Elizabeth Stratmoen was born on October 8, 1921, in Carpenter, SD, the daughter of Frank and Julia Mae Crouse. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith as an adult and was united in marriage to Lloyd Stratmoen on December 23, 1944, in the Riverside Lutheran Church parsonage in Dawson, MN. Hazel and Lloyd were blessed with three children- Ann, Elizabeth and Barbara.
Hazel was a homemaker and later worked as a nursing assistant for 28 years at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital. She was an active member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church and prided herself in not being a leader, but a dedicated worker, participating in Altar Guild, Circle, quilting group and the Kitchen Committee for many years.
Hazel was also a member of the Granite Falls VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and the DAV Auxiliary. She also volunteered her time with the Granite Falls Senior Citizens, serving on their board for over 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and playing cards. She had a great sense of humor, was always willing to help others and never wanted to focus attention on herself.
In the evening hours of Sunday, July 20, 2014, in the loving presence of her family, Hazel was called from this life while a patient of the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital. She was 92 years of age.
Hazel is survived by her daughters, (whom she always called ‘my girls’): Ann (& Duaine) Amundson of Willmar, Elizabeth (& Doug) Schuler of Mascoutah, IL and Barbara (& Jerry) Gustafson of Willmar; 7 grandchildren- Nathan Warner, Paul (& Jessica) Warner, Lisa (& Bruce) Sterling, Matthew (& Charlene) Johnson, Nicole (& Mike) Brandriet, Jeffrey (& Carol) Gustafson and Joel (& Amy) Gustafson; 15 great-grandchildren and her special friend Mary Kelly, who she always referred to as her 4th daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Julia Mae Crouse; her husband Lloyd (in 2004); her sister Anna Stone; her brother Stanley James Crouse and her great grandson Vance Johnson.
