Hazel Alvina Miller was born at home near Big Bend, Minnesota on April 15, 1925, to Oscar and Helga Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Big Bend Lutheran Church. She attended Milan Public School and graduated in 1943.
Hazel married Vernon Miller on November 3, 1948, at the Big Bend parsonage. She was first employed at the Milan Bank and later went to work at the Montevideo School District Superintendent’s office as a bookkeeper. In later years she moved to the food service department and became affectionally known as the ‘Malt Lady’ until her retirement in 1990. Hazel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Senior Citizens and also the Minnesota Valley Antique Farm Power Association.
Hazel enjoyed reading, bowling, crafting, cooking and visiting with family and friends. She loved and took pride her home and family.
Hazel is survived by her sons, Galen (Lisa) Miller of Hill City, SD, Wayne Miller of Chaska; special nephew, Charles (Elizabeth) Jahn of Montevideo; grandchildren, Jessica (Tim) Dauwalter of Cologne, Zuri Miller of Eau Claire, WI, Miranda (Jon) Souba of Chaska, Zachary Miller of St. Charles, MO; special granddaughters, Annelise and Karina Jahn of Montevideo; great grandson, Daniel Souba; as well as extended family and friends.
