Hazel Iona Sites was born at her parent’s home, Harry & Eva (Ferguson) Sites in rural Granite Falls on September 29, 1928. She attended rural school the first five years and completed her schooling in the Granite Falls High School when she graduated in 1946. She attended Normal Training in Madison where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught rural school for two years.
Hazel married Arbie Beavers on June 6, 1948, at her parent’s home. They moved to Colorado in 1960, where she was employed as a teacher’s aide. They returned to Granite Falls in 1965, and she was employed by Parker Hannifin Company for over 26 years. Hazel’s family always came first and she always made sure her family had a place to come home to, especially on holidays. She enjoyed gardening, reading and crocheting.
Hazel passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at the Granite Falls Hospital. She was 89 years of age.
She is survived by two daughters: Barbara Kjersten and Beverly (Dale) Johnson; five grandchildren: Scott (Pam) Kjersten of Renville, Mark Kjersten of Sacred Heart, Laurie Johnson of Clara City, Brian (Jamie) Johnson of Trimont and Becky (Troy) Schmitz of Granite Falls; thirteen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arbie, parents, one brother Russell and two sisters: Avis (Robert) Schuler and Helen (Dean) Blue, son-in-law Andy Kjersten and an infant grandson.
