Harold Dahl was born July 29, 1918, the son of Ole and Hilda (Johnson) Dahl, in rural Granite Falls. He was baptized and confirmed as an adult in the Lutheran faith on December 12, 1945. He attended rural school through 8th Grade. He was united in marriage to LuElla Harbour on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1944, at Black Oak Lake Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong farmer who had a passion for nurturing the earth. He was proud to be part of a Century Farm and his own mother, Hilda, was born & lived her entire life on the same farm where Harold was also born and lived his entire life. At the age of 12, he earned a 4-H trip to the State Fair with his Holstein calf. He traveled in a train car from the Montevideo Depot to the State Fair. Harold served as a Chippewa County Commissioner in the late 1960’s. He also served on many local committees and on cooperative boards. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and the neighbor kids in the back yard. He loved getting kids energized by joking around or jumping out from behind a corner. In their retirement, he and Lu enjoyed traveling. They especially enjoyed their trip to Denmark, Sweden and Norway. He was blessed with a large family, now including five generations, and sincerely enjoyed spending time with family. The home farm was always the gathering place for celebrations of every kind.
