Grace (Mary) Shubert

Grace “Mary” Shubert was born on Sept. 5, 1929, in Sacred Heart Township, Renville County, MN, the daughter of Harold and Bessie (Warner) Refsland. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at First Lutheran Church in Renville, MN and grew up in the Renville area. She attended country school in Renville County through the 8th grade and on Dec. 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Merlen Shubert at the parish house in Bechyn, MN.
Grace and Merlen eventually settled in Clara City, MN and became members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Grace enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, loved canning, embroidering, playing cards and bingo, cooking for her family, baking and making delicious doughnuts. Grace looked forward to visiting and laughing with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
On Thursday Feb. 25, 2016, Grace was peacefully called from this life while a resident of the Clara City Care Center. She was 86 years of age.
She is survived by her 8 children- Charlotte (& Weldon) Zondervan of Renville, Mark (& Darice) Shubert of Sacred Heart, LuAnn (& Steve) Lentz of Renville, Kevin (& Theresa) Shubert of Clara City, Deb Glaser of Montello, WI, Jeff (& Sharon) Shubert of Worthington, Todd Shubert (& Shelley Heglund) of Willmar, MN Duane (& Michele) Shubert of Clara City; a sister-in-law, Marlue Folkens of Granite Falls, one daughter-in-law, Char Packard of Myrtle Point, OR; 21 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband (in 2006); one son Bradley Shubert; brother-in-law Richard Folkens; son-in-law William Glaser; her brother Bill Refsland and 6 sisters- Gladys, Irene, Margaret, Katherine, Phyllis & Patty.
