Gordon “Gordy” Stutelberg, age 92, of Willmar and formerly of Clara City passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Copperleaf Assisted Living in Willmar. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, August 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in rural Clara City.
Gordon “Gordy” Ray Stutelberg was born on August 23, 1929 in Clara City, Minnesota. He was the son of Henry and Jennie (Christians) Stutelberg. Gordy was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. He was raised and attended school also in Clara City.
After high school, Gordy served his county in the U.S. Navy from September 10, 1948 to September 4, 1952. Upon returning home, Gordy met Agnes Schroeder and they were married on January 27, 1955 in Watertown, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Clara City and were blessed with four sons.
Gordy worked over 42 years for the railroad. When he first started, it was for Great Northern and his job was a clerk. Through the years he was promoted, the railway became known as Burlington Northern and he retired in 1994 as an agent. Gordy also drove bus for many years, though he ran a tight ship, he had a tender spot and would give the kids a Snickers when they left the bus for Christmas.
Gordy enjoyed gardening and playing cards. He loved his wife, family and truly loved kids. Each grandchild and great grandchild had a special place in his heart. He also treasured the visits from his nieces and nephews. Gordy was easy going and had a ready smile for those he met.
Gordy is survived by his sons, Bruce (Deb) Stutelberg of Clara City, Scott (Heidi) Stutelberg of Hutchinson, Eric Stutelberg of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Craig (Melissa) Stutelberg of Sioux City, IA, Heather Stutelberg (Tony Christensen) of Hutchinson, Michael Stutelberg of Hutchinson; great grandchildren, Ethan Dunkelberger, Evelyn Stutelberg, Sean Christensen, Eleanor Stutelberg, Ari Christensen; brother, Allen (Deanna) Stutelberg of Clara City; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gordy is preceded in death by parents, Henry and Jennie; wife, Agnes; son, Jeffrey; siblings, Ervin “Bud” Stutelberg, Hazel Spanton, Lester Stutelberg, Marion Angell, Harvey “Wally” Stutelberg, Mildred “Sis” Docken, Kenneth “Bobby” Stutelberg, Darrel Stutelberg.
