Gloria wrote the following in 2009 for her 65th Class Reunion.
My children: Lynn and Marcia Varpness (married brothers), Janelle Lungstrom, Kevin, Myrle, Wyatt, Drew, Van, Zoe, Murray Peterson.
My life from high school to now: After school I worked at the Ideal Café, Royal Maid Ice Cream Store and Rustad’s Bakery before Bud and I were married June 6, 1946. We farmed in Granite and Sacred Heart. We moved to town where Bud worked in the Creamery and later the school. I stayed home until all the kids were old enough to take care of themselves. I worked shortly for the Renvilla Nursing Home and went to work for Warner Manufacturing, taught Sunday School for years and served on church council. Mostly, we raised our kids, went to school activities, church functions, worked hard and enjoyed it all.
Involvement: Family, friends and neighbors. I quilt when I like, garden, read, nothing terribly exciting, but it’s the life I love.
Life changes: Becoming a widow and losing me whole family and in-law family in just a few years. My husband died one week after the twin towers fell.
Trips, etc: Going to Chicago for our son’s graduation from Navy school. Very impressive ceremony. Our son-in-law and daughter took us to see him New London, Connecticut, while he was in the Navy. WE went to Niagara Falls before and Washington, D.C.. A few years later we went to Disney World and back up to D.C. When we were married for three years, we went to the west coast – Portland, Oregon, Seattle and Everett, Washington. We were very lucky to have seen both coasts and two oceans.
The best things are usually free and money is only good for what it can do. Life is best when we remember who put us here and all the love He shows us.
