Gladwin Johnson

George Gladwin Johnson was born on October 17,1929, in Willmar, MN, the son of George and Christine Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended school in Sacred Heart, MN. He served his country in the United States Air Force and on July 8, 1955, he was united in marriage to Ruth Wearda. Gladwin and Ruth farmed and raised cattle in Renville County. He enjoyed going to auctions and visiting Machinery Hill at the Minnesota State Fair. On January 30, 1974, Gladwin was involved in an airplane accident near Montevideo, MN, which left him paralyzed. With the help of family and neighbors, he continued to farm until 1991 when he retired. In 2002, Gladwin and Ruth moved to Granite Falls. Gladwin enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting with friends and neighbors. When traveling with his family, he always enjoyed the ?scenic route?. He will always be remembered for his positive attitude and his ability to place other peoples? needs above his own. In the early morning hours of Monday December 10, 2007, Gladwin was called from this life while at home with Ruth. He was 78 years of age. He is survived by his wife- Ruth of Granite Falls, MN; his children- Tom (& Melanie) Johnson of Clara City, MN, Naomi (& Bud) Jermeland of Forest City, IA and Rob (& Kari) Johnson of Sacred Heart, MN; 10 grandchildren- Nathaniel, Daniel & JoAnna Johnson, Alex, Andrew, Grace, Christopher & Michelle Jermeland, Tomka & Severine Johnson; 3 brothers- Goodwin (& Barbara) Johnson , Vernon Johnson and Paul (& Jane) Johnson all of Sacred Heart, MN; one sister- Virginia (& Paul) Wearda of Willmar, MN and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
