Gertrude Priebe

Gertrude Mary Priebe died at the Clara City Care Center on Monday, January 25, 2010 at the age of 92 years. She was born March 27, 1917 in Casselton, North Dakota to Edward and Gertrude (Hoverstadt) McManus. Her mother passed away the day after Gertrude was born. She was raised by her grandparents James and Mary Anne McManus who lived in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She attended school in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1935. Gertrude worked at various jobs in Fergus Falls and was a caregiver for her grandparents until their deaths.In 1944, she and her cousin Mary went to the West Coast to seek employment. They found work at the Todd-Pacific Ship Builders in Tacoma, Washington and worked there for 1 ½ years. Gertrude then moved to the Clara City area living with her aunt and uncle, Rose and Allen McDonell.On October 20, 1947 she married Allen Priebe in Clara City. Gertrude lived on the family farm until 2005 at which time she moved to the Clara City Care Center until the time of her death. She was a member of St. Clara Catholic Church and was active in church activities, including CCW and taught religion classes for 12 years. She especially enjoyed little children and visiting with everyone. Her family was her life.Gertrude is survived by a daughter Mary Anne of Clara City and a son Brian and his wife Eva of Maynard, 5 grandchildren: Margie (Rick), Cynthia (Chris), Jayne, Justin (Brittany) and Gerad; 1 great granddaughter Sydney Giese; 4 brothers: Philip, Lyle, Patrick, and Thomas.She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002, her parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
