Gertie Rand

Gertie Henrietta Rand was born April 20, 1921 in Chippewa County, Minnesota, the daughter of Jake and Mamie Stegeman. She passed away April 14, 2013 at the Clara City Care Center.She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and grew up and attended country school near Gluek.On November 18, 1940 Gertie was united in marriage to Fred Rand at the Lutheran Parsonage in Clara City. To this union four sons were born. Gertie was a devoted wife and loving mother caring for the family home and helping with the chores. She and Fred farmed in Stoneham Township until 1982 before moving into Maynard. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and active with WELCA. Gertie enjoyed gardening, flowers, and having tea with her grandchildren.Gertie is survived by her sons: Robert (Patsy) Rand of Maynard; Rodney (Patty) Rand of Maynard; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; daughters-in-laws Phyllis Rand of Maynard and Mardell Rand of Granite Falls; sister: Irene Goldstein of Benson; and other friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred in 2000; sons: Dwayne and Ronnie; brothers William, Ray, and Hank.
