Gerald “Jerry” Myers age 77 of Granite Falls passed away Tuesday, January 27th at his home. A memorial Mass of Christian burial with military honors will be held at a later date this spring. Gerald Dean Myers was born in Reno County, Kansas on April 7, 1937 to Thelma and Harold Myers. He had one younger sister, Carolyn. Jerry grew up near Sedan, Kansas where he attended and graduated from Sedan High School. After graduation, he joined the Navy as an aviation mechanic and was based at Moffett Federal Airfield in Mountain View ,California. After his discharge he worked for Hiller Aircraft near Palo Alto until being recalled into service in 1961.
While visiting San Francisco, Jerry met Dorothy Botten and married her on July 30th, 1960. The young couple lived in San Francisco after they married and had two daughters, Lynn and Cathy, while living there. In 1961, Jerry was recalled into active duty during the erection of the Berlin Wall. After his discharge from the Navy, Jerry and Dorothy and their daughters moved to Norco, California in 1964. They then moved to Corona Calif. Two more children, Greg and Steve, were born to the family. Jerry worked for several different companies after leaving the military, but found one that he loved. He worked for Rohr, Inc primarily as a tool and die maker until his retirement in 1995.They purchased a farm site in Granite Falls, Mn. in 1992 and traveled back and forth every year to Calif. until finally making Granite Falls their home in 2007.Jerry loved woodworking, hunting with his family and friends, watching westerns on T.V., arguing with his wife, lecturing his grandkids, and teasing every kid he came across. He was a very loving father, grandfather and husband. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Granite Falls; his four children: Lynn Snyder of Corona, CA; Cathy Bailey of Granite Falls, Greg Myers of Mesa, AZ; and Steve Myers of Corona, CA; 4 grandchildren: Shauna Rios, Robbie Snyder, Danielle Bailey and Justine Angulo; 3 great grandchildren: David Rios, Faith Bailey and Aiden Byrne; his sister Carolyn Furry of Bartlesville, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Harold Myers, his niece LeAnn and extended family.
