George James Schindele was born on April 1, 1936, in Ronneby, MN, the son of Joseph and Eleanor (Piotrowski) Schindele. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith in St. Andrew Church in Granite Falls and graduated from the Granite Falls High School in 1954. He then attended St. Thomas College for one year and served two years in the Minnesota National Guard.
On April 20, 1963, George was united in marriage to Linda Halvorson in St. Andrew Catholic Church. He took over his father’s movie theatre business in downtown Granite Falls, retiring in 1986.
George enjoyed going down town to have coffee with his friends and loved to bowl. He liked motorcycles, watching the Vikings and was a Chicago Cubs fan. George was a history buff and loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren. Another of George’s traits was his passion for being punctual.
In the early morning hours of January 4, 2017, while a patient at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN, George passed away due to injuries received in an automobile accident several days earlier. He was 80 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Linda of Granite Falls; his children- John (& Candy) Schindele of Ely and Brian (& Lori) Schindele of Granite Falls; his grandchildren- Courtney (& Zach) Buseman of Montevideo, and Lucas Schindele and Nicholas Schindele both of Granite Falls; brothers-in-law Mike Halvorson, Verle (& Dot) Halvorson, Dennis Halvorson and Dean (&Joy) Halvorson; nieces, nephews and extended family. Preceding George in death were his parents, his brother Dale and a grandson John O’Neal.
