Gene Koepke, age 85, of Granite Falls died Friday, January 1, 2021, at Home Front First Care Center in Montevideo. A Memorial Service will be held January 30, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Granite Falls Lutheran Church in Granite Falls with interment following at Granite Falls City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A Video of the service will be available following on the funeral home website.
Gene Arthur Koepke was born on March 13, 1935, in Granite Falls, Minnesota, the son of Arthur and Clarice (Wilson) Koepke. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. He attended school and graduated in 1953 in Granite Falls. After high school he worked road construction until he entered the Army National Guard on August 31, 1955. Gene served overseas in Germany in an artillery unit as a mechanic and also earning qualifications as a sharpshooter. He was honorably discharge on September 8, 1958 returning to Granite Falls area.
On September 16, 1961, Gene was united in marriage to Delores “Dee” Syring at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. They made their home in Granite Falls and the couple was blessed with four sons. Gene began working at Roger’s Hydraulics and retired from there in 2000. He was a Firearms Safety instructor for many years and work with the Police Reserves. Gene was a member of the Granite Falls American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Gene enjoyed anything outdoors, hunting, fishing, cutting wood and camping to mention a few. He and Dee liked to travel, making a trip to Germany and several bus tours. Gene enjoyed being a grandparent and recently when the great grandchildren joined the family, he always had a smile when they appeared.
Gene is survived by his wife, Dee Koepke of Granite Falls; sons, Jeff (Becky) Koepke of Granite Falls, Jim (Faye) Koepke of Sioux Falls, SD, Jerry (Sheila) Koepke of Granite Falls, Joe (Kim) Koepke of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Kathy (Jacob) Gregoire, Tyler Koepke, Jake (Shelby) Koepke, Alex (Courtney Anderson) Koepke, Zach Koepke, Adam (Dani) Koepke, Jada (Brandon Ludewig) Koepke, Braden (Madi Seifert) Koepke; great grandchildren, Derek, Jake, Raelynn; sister, Carol (Jerry) Downey of Huddleston, VA; sister-in-law, Nancy Syring; family friend, Kelly Winters; as well as other relatives and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Clarice Koepke; father and mother-in-law, Frank and Clara Syring; sister-in-law, Harriet (Don) Schroepfer; brothers-in-law, Darrel Syring and Harold Syring.
