Garnet Grace Denbrook was born July 12, 1946 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Armin and Grace Denbrook. She passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012 in Brookings, South Dakota, at the Brookings Health System. She was baptized September 1, 1946 at Trefoldighed Lutheran Church in Battle Lake and was confirmed May 21, 1961 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Garnet grew up in Montevideo and was active in Glee Club and participated as a baton twirler in high school. She graduated from Montevideo High School with the class of 1964. On January 29, 1966 Garnet was united in marriage to William Strommer at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church Chapel. To this union two children were born.Garnet served on the optical board of directors at Granite Falls Technical College, was a member of the Brookings Hospital Auxiliary, and was the treasurer of the Brookings Cardiac Rehab Organization. She enjoyed singing along to the "oldies" and dancing, loved flowers and gardening with her potted plants. Garnet loved spending time with her grandchildren and baking them their favorite goodies. Garnet always loved a good argument and getting in the last word. Garnet is survived by her children: Pam (Jon) Weckwerth of Brookings, South Dakota; Paul (Kim) Strommer of Olivia; grandchildren: Ethan Weckwerth, Tyler, Kayla, and Alyssa Strommer; brother: Roger (Laurie) Denbrook of Waconia; sisters: Carol Denbrook-Buesgens of Chanhassen; Kay (John) LaRoque of Wabasha; Jill Denbrook of St. Louis Park; Norma Denbrook of Wisconsin; Nancy Denbrook of Georgia; and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents: Armin and Grace; and a brother-in-law Larry Buesgens.
