Gale Dahlager, age 89, from Granite Falls, Minnesota passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Granite Falls Care Center. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM Granite Falls Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be held Monday, November 27, 2023 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be at Granite Falls City Cemetery.
Gale Arthur Dahlager (age 89) was born April 5, 1934, the son of Glenn and Thea (Thompson) Dahlager in Wang Township of Renville County, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm north of Sacred Heart and went to country school before attending Sacred Heart High School where he graduated with the Class of 1951. Upon graduation, Gale worked on the farm before he enlisted in the United States Army.
Gale was baptized at the Granite Falls Assembly of God Church and enjoyed participating in the church youth group activities. It was while volunteering as a church youth leader, he met the love of his life, Lois Beck and while on furlough from the military, Gale and Lois were married on May 29, 1956 at the Willmar Assembly of God Church. Gale returned to Seattle, Washington where he was stationed in the army. Lois soon joined him in Seattle where they remained until 1958 when they returned to begin farming in north Sacred Heart. Together they farmed for 41 years and were blessed with three daughters.
Gale was a person of faith, devoted and loving husband, father and leader in the community. He was a man of honor providing a Godly example to everyone. In addition to farming, Gale served as a public servant beginning as a (school) board member for the Sacred Heart School District. During his tenure, Renville and Sacred Heart Schools paired to become RSH School District. Following his service as a board member for the school district, Gale served as a Renville County Commissioner for 24 years.
Gale was an active member of his church serving as a Board member, Sunday School teacher and choir member. He was involved in many organizations, including the Lions Club, Sacred Heart Historical Society, Sons of Norway, and Building Bridges Choir. Gale and Lois enjoyed volunteering at the Granite Falls Living at Home Block Nursing Program and were members of the Golden Grands exercise group where they enjoyed establishing new friendships in the community of Granite Falls. Additionally, Gale was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
Gale is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Tim) Wilson of Springfield, MO, Sheryl (Rick) Schwindt of Sacred Heart, Jane Dahlager (Jerod Brazee) of Garretson, SD; grandchildren, Heidi (Lorin) Williamson of Midlothian, TX, Nathaniel Wilson of Montverde (Orlando), FL, Mitchell (Kylee) Schwindt of Clara City, Jerrad (Brittany) Dahlager of Springfield, MO, Kathryn Wilson of Kansas City, MO and Elizabeth Wilson of Kansas City, MO; great grandchildren, Delaney Williamson, Norah Schwindt, Penelope Williamson, William Schwindt, Joelle Schwindt, Francesca Williamson, Monroe Williamson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken (Marcie) Dahlager of Springfield, MO, Howard (Linda) Dahlager of Maynard, Sam (Deb) Dahlager of Willmar, sister, Sue Hadden of Springfield, MO, sisters-in-law, Patricia Holmquist of Sun City, AZ, Darla Dahlager of Minneapolis, Olive Beck of Willmar; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gale was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; parents, Glenn and Thea; sister, Charlotte (Sherman) Buschow; brothers, David Dahlager, Donald Dahlager; sisters and brothers-in-law, Audrey (Chet) Lee, James Beck; Ardys (Wally) Johnson; Eunice (Donald) Jelley; nieces, Debra Buschow and Tamera Jelley.
