Floyd Harvey Hilbrands was born on May 10, 1939 in Lone Tree Township, Minnesota, the son of Fokko and Helena “Lena” (Caspers) Hilbrands. He was baptized at Bethany Reformed Church on July 2, 1939. Floyd attended country school and also the Clara City High School. He enlisted in the United State Army on January 7, 1959. He was honorably discharge on November 12, 1960.
On January 11, 1964, Floyd was united in marriage to Donna Myhre at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Watson. They began their life together in the Renville area and in 1965, they moved to a farm near Floyd’s childhood home and started farming. The couple were blessed with two children, Ronda and Brian. Floyd also worked at Tebben Manufacturing and Condon Steel and was an accomplished welder.
Floyd was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Clara City American Legion and served on the elevator board. Floyd thoroughly enjoyed attending and volunteering at Heritage Hill. He was proud to have his own Massey-Harris tractor as the featured tractor during the 2016 Heritage Hill Threshing Show.
Floyd was a tractor enthusiast! He could explain in detail, hundreds of tractors and perhaps even had a model of one to show you. Floyd loved to drive his tractors in any parade and if he caught your eye, you were sure to gain his signature wave. He had a knack for finding good deals, even if he was the only one who thought so. Floyd enjoyed going to auctions, having morning coffee with the crew and taking his wife out to eat after a stop at Runnings. He loved his family and would always share stories of his grandsons’ accomplishments. Floyd wanted to make others smile, whether it was sharing a joke, story or simply visiting. His goal was to brighten your day.
Floyd passed away at Clara City Care Center on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 10 days.
