Florence Doty

Florence Ruth Doty was born at Howard, South Dakota the daughter of George and Helen (Cavanaugh) McCain. Following her high school education at Howard, she worked at the local bakery and grocery store. In January 1948, she and Morris Doty married in Pipestone, MN. They lived in both South Dakota and Iowa prior to settling in Clarkfield, MN where Morris taught school for 22 years. Florence had a day care for the teacher families during this time. After retirement, she and Morris moved to their cabin in the Brainerd Lakes area, where they traveled the area selling their woodworking/furniture items at trade shows.
Florence was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her love for her family and quick wit will be missed all. On October 19, 2016, she was called peacefully from her life while a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home. She was 90 years of age.
Surviving family include her son Ronald Doty ( Linda Smith) of Golden Valley, AZ; her daughter Donita (Steve) Arhart of Brainerd; her grandson Doug Doty of Montevideo, her granddaughter Becky (Grant) Velde of Granite Falls; 4 great grandchildren; Brianna (Brennan) Nordstrom of Montevideo, Alyssa Doty of Montevideo, Brooke ( fiancé Ozzie Sand) Velde of Cannon Falls, Tyson Velde of Granite Falls, and one great-great grandson Ryker Nordstrom of Montevideo; her brother James (Gloria) McCain of Howard, SD and her sister Rose Thomas of Rapid City, SD along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceding her in death were her husband Morris Doty, parents George and Helen McCain, brothers Robert and Vincent McCain and sister Betty McCain.
