Evelyn Schwinghammer

Evelyn Marie Schwinghammer, 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on August 26, 2009 at Willow Point Assisted Living in North Mankato, Minnesota.She was born January 1, 1919 to Raymond and Antoinette Borgerding and was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany, Minnesota where she also received her formal education.Evelyn was united in marriage to Larry Schwinghammer on June 24, 1939 in Albany, Minnesota.Evelyn and Larry moved to Sacred Heart, Minnesota in the summer of 1949, where she was a devoted mother, caring for the house and raising their five children. Evelyn worked at the Post Office in Sacred Heart and would often assist Larry in the family Chevrolet dealership.In their retirement years, they enjoyed traveling, spending time in Arizona and Florida. Larry passed away in 1991. Evelyn moved to Granite Falls in 1996 where she was active with the Ladies V.F.W. Auxiliary. She spent her leisure time reading, playing cards, and enjoyed horse racing and watching golf. She has lived in Mankato for the past five years. Evelyn is survived by her children: Sandra (Howard) Knutson of Nisswa, Minnesota; Paul Schwinghammer (JoAnne) of Mankato, Minnesota; Joyce Lampe of Winter Park, Florida; Jean (Mike) Turner of Charleston, South Carolina; Thomas (Laurie) Schwinghammer of North Mankato, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grand children, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry in 1991; parents Raymond and Antoinette; and her brothers and a sister.
