Evelyn Reid

November 28, 1916 — November 18, 2010

Evelyn Reid was born on November 28, 1916, in Yellow Medicine County, near Clarkfield, MN, the daughter of Peter and Emma Sebber. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the United Lutheran Church in Granite Falls and attended Asbury Elementary School. She graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1934.Following high school, Evelyn was employed as a housekeeper in Minneapolis, MN and also as a clerk at the Fanny Farmer Store. On May 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to Ellsworth "Elly" Reid and they farmed in the Granite Falls area from 1952 until their retirement in 1985. Elly passed away in 1998. Evelyn was a caregiver all of her life. She assisted on the family farm as a young girl and throughout her adult life, cared for her parents, her brother, her two sisters-in-law, her uncle and her mother. She was known for her graciousness and hospitality, as she always made sure those visiting her received an excellent home cooked meal. Evelyn had a gift of always making everyone feel loved and appreciated. She enjoyed cheering people up and was never known to utter an unkind word about anyone. Her credence was the phrase, ?don't sweat the small stuff?, as she lived her life in service to others. Evelyn was a faithful member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church and during her active years, participated in numerous church related activities. Due to her declining health, Evelyn for these past several years had been a resident of the Granite Falls Manor. In the evening hours of Thursday, November 18, 2010, in the presence of loving family, Evelyn was called from this life. She was 93 years of age.She is survived by nine nieces and nephews and a foster son- Harold Larson of California and extended family. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; two brothers- Ordell Sebber & Robert Sebber; a half brother- Leslie Gray; a niece- Dorothy Gray and a nephew- James Sebber.
