Eunice Sorenson

Eunice Delores Johnson Sorenson passed away at the Granite Falls Health Care Center on January 9, 2019, at the age of 93 years. She was born on December 8, 1925, in New Effington, South Dakota to Peter Johnson and Gilma Stagaberg. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Roberts County, SD.
On November 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to Melvin K. Sorenson in the Chokio Lutheran parsonage. They were blessed with four children: Kenny, Linda, Keith & Brenda.
Eunice and Melvin lived in the Appleton area for many years and she did many jobs housecleaning for many people, so for all of us who know her so well that’s where she thought she had to do her own housecleaning every Spring and Fall for many years, however she was somewhat of a hoarder: Kleenex , paper towels, notes, old appointment cards, twist ties, baggies, tin foil only to name a few. From Appleton they moved to the Granite Falls area and moved into the Chippewa Terrace Trailer Court where she did daycare for possibly 20 years or more. The kids would call her Grandma Eunice. She was a very special provider for many children and they paid .75 for one child and $1.25 for 2 or more. She always quoted, “I should go up with my prices, but I might lose my kids if I do.”
Eunice wasn't much into social activities, was more of a stay at home type of person, but she loved flowers of any kind. They always looked so nice and healthy. She moved into Henry Hill in July of 2012, and was there until August of 2018 as her health was declining quickly. She was in the Clarkfield Care Center for a short period of time and then was a resident at the Granite Falls Health Care Center until her passing.
Eunice is survived by her daughter Linda Hildahl (Joe Kittl), son Keith (Linda) Sorenson, son-in-law Bruce Hildahl all of Granite Falls; grandchildren: Stacy Banken, Jason Hildahl, Kelsey Sorenson; great grandchildren: Brynn & Brooke Banken, Aubrey Blair, and Calla & Cadence Hildahl; sister Rose Strege of Chaska; sister-in-law Betty (Jerry) Friedrich of Hutchinson, Jean Ann Johnson of Waconia & Ruthy Johnson of Victoria and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin, son Kenny, daughter Brenda, granddaughter Tracy Leenerts & husband Gerrod; sisters: Adeline & Gladys, brothers: Alfred, Goodwin, Gerald & Marlow; brothers-in-law Gordon & wife Ginny Sorenson, Bud Benson, Harold Beyer & Dale Strege and sister-in-law Jo Jo Johnson
Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 14th at 1 PM at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Private family burial will be this spring in the Louisberg Cemetery, Louisberg, MN.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services and at the lunch which will immediately follow.
