Eunice Thelma Bjorndal was born on the farm in Hawk Creek Township, the daughter of Anton and Amanda (Golie) Hegna, on July 22, 1923. She passed away Saturday April 23, 2016 at the Granite Falls Manor.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. Eunice grew up on a farm south of Sacred Heart and attended country school until sixth grade before moving back to the farm she was born on and finished 8th grade. Eunice attended Sacred Heart high school and graduated in 1941. She worked at Torgerson’s Department Store in Granite Falls for three years.
On December 9, 1945 Eunice was united in marriage to Stenword Bjorndal at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. To this union 3 children were born. They lived north of Sacred Heart for three years before buying their farm in Hawk Creek Township.
Eunice enjoyed farming and doing field work. She taught Sunday school, belonged to WELCA, homemakers club, birthday club and sewing club. During their child rearing years they hosted weekly softball games every summer with the neighbor farm families. Eunice also enjoyed square dancing with the Ace of Clubs Dance club, and was a 4H leader. Eunice and Stenword were able to winter in Texas and Arizona for over 2o years.
She is survived by her husband, Stenword Bjorndal of Granite Falls; children: Scott (Karla) Bjorndal of Granite Falls; LeAnn Thun of Eden Prairie; grandchildren: Brandon (Krista) Thun, Steven (Beth) Bjorndal, Shawn (Alisha) Bjorndal, Sara (Ryan-Fiancée) Bjorndal, and Christina (Kirk) Eilertson; great grandchildren: Hailie, Hanna, Chase, Carter, Kate, Claire, Raegan, Cullen, Samuel and Brandon.
Eunice was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Avelsgaard; and her parents: Anton and Amanda Hegna.
