Etta was born on February 17, 1927, in Renville County, the daughter of Ben & Fannie Poppen. She was baptized in the Emden Christian Reformed Church by Rev. Kasjen Tebben. She became a member of Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City in 1945 by her confession of faith. She received her elementary education in the Raymond and Clara City areas.Etta was united in marriage to Bernard F. Brummer on November 12, 1946. They farmed south of Clara City until retiring in 1973, at which time they moved into Clara City. In 1953, Etta and her six month old baby daughter were stricken with polio. She was totally paralyzed, but made a good recovery with much treatment and God's blessing. After two years, she resumed her duties as wife and mother for her family in their home. Etta had a strong faith in the Lord and was confident that God would see her through each day. She was a living testimony that God is faithful to His children and worthy to be trusted. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her hands were always busy cooking, baking and making quilts or caps. She also did a lot of reading. On Friday morning, July 30, 2010, Etta was called from this life to be with her Lord at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. She was 83 years of age. Surviving family include her son- John Brummer of Clara City, her daughter- Shirley (& Larry) Klaassen of Clara City, and her son- Dennis Brummer of Juneau, AK; two grandsons- David (& Kelly) Klaassen and Mark Klaassen; two great grandchildren- Ashley & Caleb; two sisters- Jennie C. Tebben of Clara City and Ida Huisman of Sacred Heart; a brother- George (& Emily) Poppen of Clara City and a sister-in-law, Violet Poppen of Long Prairie. Preceding Etta in death were her parents; her husband (in 2000), a brother- Bert; and infant sister and two brothers-in-law, John & Gerrit.
