Ervin Theodore Klaassen was born October 11, 1924 at home in Crate Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota to George and Emma (Greve) Klaassen. He died on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Ervin was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City and attended the Clara City schools.
He made his life’s profession farming with his father; and, on March 15, 1946, was united in marriage to Dolores Nila Zempel.
Dolores taught school for some years, and they continued to farm, after which they remained on the farm site until now; enjoying a total of 70 years together.
Ervin served on the Church Council, was a Sunday School and Confirmation teacher, and also served as an election judge in town.
He had many a hunting and fishing story to tell, and also did taxidermy work. Flying was next on his list of exciting things to do. He learned to play the organ, and also had a love of painting. Many of which hang in his home. Ervin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He always had time for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Alvin (Lola), Clarence (Gertrude), and George, Jr. in infancy; sisters: Lucille (Harm) DeGrote and Sylvia (Clarence) Clausen, and several nieces, nephews, and one great niece.
Ervin is survived by his wife Dolores, son Lyle (Sue), and daughter Carol. Also surviving are his granddaughter Christina (Chris) Inman and grandsons John and Zachary Klaassen; great grandsons Christopher, Seth and Emmett Klaassen.
