Elvera G. Raffelson was born on December 23, 1915 in Montevideo, Minnesota the daughter of Alma A. and Peter E. Skogrand. She was baptized in 1916 and later confirmed her faith at the Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Watson. She received her elementary education in rural schools. In March of 1936, Elvera was united in marriage to Ingvald J. Raffelson at the Lutheran Parsonage in Watson. The couple continued to farm north of Montevideo where they raised their family. She was an active participant in Ladies Aid and loved spending time in her vegetable and flower gardens, sewing- especially quilts, cooking and baking, playing cards with family and friends and ice fishing. As her health began to fail, Elvera took up residency at Copper Glen & Valin Senior Care and in 2008 transferred to Luther Haven Nursing Home. She died peacefully on Monday, August 29th at the age of 95. Cherishing her memory are her children: Marilyn (Bill) Brune of Grand Rapids, MI; Glory (Chuck) Tillmann of Alexandria, Winnie Raffelson of Minneapolis, Alice Scott of Fergus Falls, and Gary (Carol) Raffelson of Montevideo; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; her brother Don Skogrand of Montevideo and her sister Delores (Don) Cornelius of Eden Prairie; sisters-in-law Marian Raffelson of Watson, Mildred Skogrand of Montevideo and Leona Skogrand also of Montevideo; brother-in-law Orice Larson of Montevideo. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband Ingvald, her parents Alma and Peter, brothers: Paulie, Marlowe, Arvid and Clifford; and a sister Vivian Larson.
